Los Alamitos High School Gymnasium

Building on the success of the Los Alamitos STEM Building, Westgroup Designs continues its partnership with Los Alamitos Unified School District to design and deliver a new 34,000 SF gymnasium that redefines the role of athletics on campus.

Currently under construction, the three-court gymnasium will serve as a multi-purpose hub for student-athletes of all levels, featuring 2,000-seat retractable bleachers, four team rooms, a weight room with dual outdoor plyometric training spaces, concessions, and ample storage. The facility will support physical wellness, team development, and school spirit throughout the academic year.

In addition to athletic functionality, the gym will integrate cutting-edge technology, including AV systems, digital scoring, smartboard displays, and a dedicated filming area, to enhance player and spectator experiences.

Westgroup Designs has prioritized sustainability and efficiency, incorporating high-performance HVAC systems, energy-efficient LED lighting, low-flow plumbing fixtures compliant with CalGreen and ADA standards, and a Building Management System to optimize long-term performance.

From its bold school branding and modern materials to its adaptive design and wellness-focused features, the Los Alamitos High School Gymnasium reflects the District’s vision for forward-thinking facilities that ignite unlimited possibilities in the classroom, on the court, and beyond.

"Westgroup Designs, under the leadership of Sima Hassani, who once again brought vision and heart to this project, and, honestly, have you seen a high school gym ever look like this? I have not.

And if you think about the presence, they also did our STEM Building, the presence that it gives to the street but now to the presence to our students as soon as you come up this driveway, you can’t help but see this Griffin pride.

We are so blessed to work along such a talented and supportive architect team and design team. Thank you for your entire support.” - Dr. Andrew Pulver, Superintendent
